WWE Smackdown coming to Augusta

The James Brown Arena will be rocking, literally, this Saturday night when the WWE Smackdown World Tour comes to town. It will include, not one, but two championship bouts and a slew of other matches featuring some of the top names in wrestling.

The event, which begins at 7:30 p.m., will be highlighted by a sort of rematch from the last WWE pay-per-view when Sheamus takes on Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship. The “Mexican Aristocrat” has been battling recently with “The Great White” Sheamus, including a four-way battle royal at last month’s Over the Limit event.

“After the pay-per-view, I’m after him, that’s my main goal,” Del Rio said. “It doesn’t matter where, I’m going to be fighting the main names in WWE. And whoever it is I’m going to show them what I have.”

Del Rio comes from a long line of wrestling heritage, with his father and grandfather both former luchador wrestlers in Mexico. The two-time champion and first ever Mexican-born champ said that’s what drives him in the WWE.

Del Rio said he loves traveling with WWE across the world, but that love will be thrown out the window come Saturday. Del Rio and Sheamus are two of the WWE’s top heavy weights and are at the cusp of a brewing rivalry.

Another belt will be on the line as well with Christian taking on Cody Rhodes for the Intercontinental Championship. Christian won the belt from Rhodes at the Over the Limit pay-per-view a few weeks back and won’t be looking to give it back so soon.

Of the undercard bouts, the main one that sticks out is Kane taking on The Great Khali. In case you were wondering, that’s two 7-foot superstars with a combined weight of 700 pounds. While the card is subject to change, other WWE superstars listed as attending include Ryback and divas AJ and Kaitlyn.
